Collection: Guinea pig

Guinea pigs are popular pets known for their lively and friendly nature.

Here is some important information about caring for guinea pigs:

Guinea pig cage: Guinea pigs require a spacious and secure cage or enclosure with plenty of space to explore and move around. A wire cage with a solid bottom or a fence are good options. Make sure the cage is located away from drafts and extreme temperatures.

Bedding: Use suitable bedding in the bottom of the cage, such as hay, hemp bedding or paper-based bedding. It is important to change bedding regularly to maintain a clean and healthy habitat.

Feed: Guinea pigs need a diet rich in fiber to maintain healthy digestion. The main part of their diet should consist of good quality fresh hay. They can also be given a small amount of high quality guinea pig food as well as fresh vegetables such as spinach, carrots, cucumbers and peppers. Avoid giving them food that is high in sugar or fat.

Water: It is important to ensure that your guinea pigs always have access to clean and fresh water. Use a heavy bowl or bottle mounted on the cage to provide water.

Company: Guinea pigs are social animals and thrive best together with another guinea pig. They should be kept in the same sex to avoid unwanted litters. If you only have one guinea pig, make sure it gets plenty of attention and social interaction from its human owners.

Exercise: Guinea pigs love to explore and play, so they should have daily access to a safe area outside their cage or enclosure. This can be a fenced garden or a special indoor play area.

Health: Keep an eye on your guinea pigs' behavior and state of health. Check their fur, eyes, ears and teeth regularly and seek veterinary advice if you notice any signs of illness or discomfort.

By providing your guinea pigs with a suitable home, a healthy diet, company and plenty of attention, you can help them live a happy and healthy life as pets.
