Special composition
Nordic Grow Lite Muesli is specially formulated for frugal breeding mares and frugal growing horses.
Minerals
The feed has a high content of minerals, which are formulated in the right proportions for pregnant mares and growing horses, which are fed with average Danish straw feed.
Vitamins
Pregnant mares and growing horses have an increased need for vitamins A, E and D, which is why we focus on this in Nordic Grow Lite Müsli, including by adding raw materials with a high content of these vitamins.
Although horses produce vitamin C themselves, there are many cases where horses can become vitamin C deficient. For example, foals do not produce enough vitamin C before weaning, and therefore they are initially completely dependent on the mare for their vitamin C supply. If the mare is lacking, the foal will be in a deficit, and since vitamin C is crucial for, among other things, skeletal development, this can have a serious impact on the foal. In Nordic Grow Lite Müsli we have added blackcurrants, which have an extremely high content of vitamin C (twice as much as in, for example, an orange).
In addition, we have added pumpkin seeds, which have a high content of beta-carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A. Beta-carotene helps ensure optimal fetal development and is also crucial for maintaining pregnancy. Beta-carotene also increases the content of vitamin A in the mare's milk, which helps to optimize the foal's immune system.
Proteins
Pregnant mares in the last part of pregnancy, as well as growing horses, have an increased protein requirement. Nordic Grow Lite Muesli contains easily accessible proteins that ensure a constant supply of numerous amino acids that support the growth of healthy tissue.
Fat and fiber
Pregnant mares and growing horses have an increased calorie requirement, which in Nordic Grow Lite Müsli is met by providing small amounts of fat and large amounts of fiber. Studies show, among other things, that mares fed a fat and fiber-based feed have an increased amount of linoleic acid and immunoglobulins in their colostrum compared to mares that cover their calorie requirements via starch and sugar. Linoleic acid is an omega-6 fatty acid that is a precursor to prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are fat-based molecules that are involved in tissue repair. They have a protective effect on the horse's gastric mucosa. Since foals are prone to developing damage to the gastric mucosa, milk that is higher in linoleic acid may have a protective effect on the mucous membranes.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Nordic Grow Lite is supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids in the form of flaxseed. When the pregnant mare consumes omega-3 fatty acids, it has been shown to change the milk fatty acid composition, and it is believed, among other things, to give the foals a stronger immune status than foals that have not received omega-3 via milk. Omega-3 fatty acids also play an important role in the foal's growth, development and general health. Among other things, a positive effect on memory, cognition and bone metabolism is seen in young horses of mares supplemented with omega-3 during pregnancy and lactation.
Oxidative stress
The metabolic demands of reproduction, specifically late gestation, foaling and lactation, can trigger an upsurge in oxidative stress in mares. To reduce or stop this oxidation process, we have added oregano oil, blackcurrant, pumpkin seeds, beetroot and natural vitamin E, all of which contribute high levels of antioxidants.
Bone health
Optimal bone health is important for growing horses. Nordic Grow Lite Muesli is enriched with natural sources of both calcium and silica, which promote proper bone development in fetuses, foals and growing fillies.
Gastrointestinal health
The health status of both the mare and the foal depends on optimal gastrointestinal health. We have therefore added oils, herbs, seeds, grains, berries, fruit, algae and root vegetables that help to protect and optimize the entire gastrointestinal system of the mare, foal and young horse. Optimal intestinal health = optimal immune defense, which we believe is the alpha and omega for a healthy start to a long and good horse life.
