Founder Joe Markham discovered the concept for KONG by chance when his dog Fritz developed a penchant for chewing on rocks, branches, and other harmful objects, which began to wear down his teeth.
The story behind KONG
Joe had tried everything to curb Fritz's destructive chewing behavior without success. By chance, Joe threw a suspension part from a Volkswagen bus, which Fritz immediately became fanatical about. It was the fun bounce and the durable material that caught Fritz's attention. After repeated attempts to take the object from Fritz, Joe got the message – and the KONG Classic was born.
